Our story

Generations of craft.
A daughter’s vision.

Ara Atelier grew from a family’s history in jewelry and a daughter’s desire to carry that tradition forward.

David and Richard came from generations of jewelers in Canada. Their journey took them to Boston and eventually to New York, bringing their family’s connection to jewelry with them. Each move opened a new chapter while keeping them connected to where they began.

Drawing on that heritage, David’s daughter founded Ara Atelier with her own vision for fine jewelry. With Divine and Dee also part of the family story, the brand brings together the experience of earlier generations and a fresh perspective on how people choose and create jewelry today.

At Ara Atelier, that process begins with listening. Some customers come to us with a diamond they love. Others bring a photograph, an occasion, or the beginnings of an idea. We help them explore the details—from the shape of a stone and the style of a setting to the gold color and final finish—until the design feels personal.

We create diamond jewelry and custom pieces for engagements, anniversaries, gifts, and moments that need no special occasion. Throughout the design and making process, our focus stays on the person who will wear the finished piece.

The name

Abigail
Richard
Amanda

Richard has two daughters, Abigail and Amanda. The name of the house places them on either side of him: Abigail, Richard, Amanda — A·R·A. A father between his daughters, and the family that stands behind every piece we make.

From Canada to Boston to New York, our family’s journey has shaped Ara Atelier. Today, we carry that story forward by helping you create something that belongs to your story.

The house

Why Ara?

Because the stone is shown before it is sold, the paper is on screen before the bidding, and the unusual cut you have been looking for is probably already in the tray. We are a small house. That is the point.

Why it matters

A diamond with
nothing behind it.

Every mined carat carries a history you cannot see. A grown diamond carries one you can read — no pit opened, no riverbed diverted, no ore body displaced, no tailings dam left for the next century to manage.

No conflict. Ever.

Grown in a sealed reactor under one roof. No mine, no militia, no chain of custody to take on faith.

No ground broken.

No pit, no overburden, no tailings, no rehabilitation debt left to a community.

Water stays where it is.

No river diverted, no silt, no processing slurry to settle out afterwards.

A footprint that can improve.

Energy is the only real input, and energy can be made cleanly. A mine cannot be un-dug.

We do not claim every laboratory diamond is green. We claim ours can tell you exactly where it came from — and that no part of it was taken from anyone.
